Day 11: You’re One Question Away
I think that might be the title of my book. If it’s not already taken.
Have you ever noticed the extreme illumination you get from a well timed and thoughtful question?
That’s why I love being coached so much. Because the coach will share with you what it is you’ve said, or done, and then ask some clarifying questions. From there, your entire perception can be changed in a second.
Well….that is, for some folks. Not necessarily the debaters. I think that’s what annoys me most about debate. Or at least the debates I’ve been privy to. It’s someone having a stance on something, digging in, and talking loudly or at a faster pace until the opponent backs down from being flustered.
Is that the perception you get from debates?
And while I believe it’s very important to have values and to believe strongly, I also think it’s such a life skill to be able to be malleable when it comes to expanding your intelligence around certain things.
Being steadfast and stubborn with a fixed mindset is something I’ll never understand.
What a boring and unremarkable way to go through life.
Not questioning. Just believing. Being influenced by your environment into seeing things a certain way. Not exploring and risking and daring to grasp people, places, and things that you have already formed a stance on.
It makes me think of the time that I had a business lunch with two of my vegetarian associates. One was a prenatal hypnotist and the other a trademark attorney. We selected our lunch spot based on all being vegetarians. While we dined we spoke about why we were vegetarians. I mentioned a book about blood types and diets. The attorney picked up the check. We posted a pic on social media then went our separate ways.
Maybe a year or 2 later (or 6 months, who knows… btw: why can’t I access my old texts and calendar on my iphone?) the three of us reconvened at the same restaurant. The hypnotist got a chicken dish and the attorney got a fish dish. I was flabbergasted. They both said that within a week of our last lunch they went back to eating meat.
The amount of “3 vegetarians go to a restaurant” themed jokes that I came up with was intense.
But in all honesty, I was happy for my buddies. We had an open and honest conversation about why we were the way we were and then changes were made. For me, I’m still vegetarian despite thinking it has negatively affected my physical and mental health. But, my value regarding the decision is fixed. It wasn’t because of my environment. Or other peoples belief systems handed down. It’s something in my heart and soul that I knew would bring me into alignment with the person I want to be while on earth.
I think the reason that I love working with solopreneurs so much is because of their growth mindsets and the ability they have to question everything. The curiosity and humbleness is next level.
If you’re interested in working with me, I have a 3 month retainer opportunity. We work 1:1 to determine what will help you dig in and embrace your strengths instead of focusing on “fixing” weaknesses. Each client is completely different and asking questions plus helping with strategy are things I love to do!
Perhaps you would rather be in community with a group of women who are seeking fulfillment of their own versions of success and also extremely supportive. If so, check out the Success Secret Society.
