Day 122: Fiction For The Win!
I’ve been writing all day! Like pencil to paper kind of writing.
A week ago the idea of a book came to mind. My 15 yo is an extremely talented creative writer so I talked to him about it. He liked it.
I asked him earlier this week if he’d given it any more thought and he said no.
Wednesday night he asked, “What about the fingerprints?”. For a split second I thought, what the hell is this kid talking about. And then I realized, “the book!”. I told him I’d thought about that too. He said, “maybe it could be based in the early 1900’s before prints and DNA were as systematized as they are now”. It was a great suggestion.
Yesterday was an insanely busy day so I thought not at all about it.
Today I volunteered to take my neighbor for a procedure which sometimes can take a couple hours and decided I was going to write while there. Sometimes I write a newsletter or respond to emails. But pencil to paper writing on the story just felt right.
What started out in my mind as a visual image of a show has morphed into an entire (using that word loosely) book plot. And it’s good!
It’s evolved a lot and who I thought was the protagonist is not.
And what I thought was the main plot, is not.
I’ve been going between the story development, character descriptions (I have 2 totally profiled including names…what? branders gonna brand!), writing actual segments, jotting down research items, timelines, locations, etc.
The kid rolled his eyes when I told him one of the characters moves to Italy. I said, “dude I had to write Italy in because if it becomes a miniseries I need to film there.” DUH!
Ok, enough excitement for one day. Early podcast recording tomorrow morning and on Monday (MLK Jr.’s remembrance day) Carin and I are going to be getting real strategic. We have quite a few things we need to iron out.
