Day 141: My Message Made It!
It’s been validated!
I told you I was getting more strategic with my content now that I have a clear direction and path to what I want my main offer to be.
Well, I took some of what I wrote in Saturday’s entry and made it into a reel.
Overnight a follower told me her CCO was nervous about being on a panel and she shared my line with her. The CCO said she was going to use it to level set and break the ice.
Yes! That’s exactly who and how I want to help.
She’s a CCO so of course she’s competent and capable. I’m sure she is juggling dozens of things which has her focus split. Having a speaking part sprung on her caused understandable stress. But now she has a one liner that will break the ice and put her at ease so she can shine.
Speaking of one-liners. I haven’t told you about the time I presented to a group of bankers. One of my friends was launching a product and had the opportunity to present it at a lunch and learn for a banks employee committee. The organizer said she could bring someone along. Since I was about to launch my business, HerHideaways (solo self-care weekend retreats just outside of Washington DC), she extended the offer. I said “Hell yea” then proceeded to freak out for a few days.
They had the tables positioned in a square. I placed myself in the center and opened with “Wow, I can’t believe they let me in here to talk to bankers.”.
It fell flatter than Kyrie Irving’s earth.
From there I spun around while I explained my new business. Was it awkward? Yes. Did I get out all I wanted to say about the business? Yep. Were there good questions after? You betcha.
That entire experience, forgot to mention I had my name badge stuck to my butt during the presentation, was so jarring and awkward that I realized nothing worse could ever happen to me. And nothing has come close since.
You can look at embarrassing moments as an indicator that you shouldnt try or show up. Or, you can view them for what they really are. A moment in time. With data attached to it but not something that has to predict your future.
Do we really think any of those bankers ever thought about me again? I mean, maybe wondering when they’d see me on Shark Tank. But I doubt they remembered that line. Possibly they did and shared it with people they know. Literally has no impact on my future.
And if that CCO used my line and it didn’t go as planned: there’s no way she didn’t still nail what she was talking about. Again, you don’t get to a role like that without being competent and capable. She just needed a confidence boost which came in the form of an opening line.
