Day 34: Procrastination Fail
I’m at 3.5 hours of phone time today. Nothing like outing your screen time in a blog post (yesterdays) to really have you aware each time you reach for the phone.
Today I spent like 4 hours (ugh) editing tomorrow’s podcast episode. The software that I purchased last week is great but the learning curve is still there. It has certain features that can be automated, like deleting filler words, but it’s not seamless. We had 188 (holy shit) between the two of us in a 24 minute conversation. The editing tool was able to remove over 50 seamlessly but the rest I had to listen to, delete, undo, delete sentences, etc.
I was 2/3 done when my kid and I had to run some errands. They didn’t have school today because of Diwali. That excursion took way longer than expected and I was grateful I got so much done when we returned. Until I couldn’t figure out how to add the intro/outro. Let’s just say after over an 1.5 hours of dorking around I had to send the “I’m sorry that my procrastination resulted in shotty work.” text to Carin.
I’ve since returned to the project to try to update it, but the software is having network wide outages. Cool cool cool.
Carin has told me it’s not difficult to upload new versions but it’s frustrating to not deliver an A+ job. And having a place holder go live tomorrow that’s not perfect is annoying. But, we don’t have a lot of listeners tune in on Tuesday’s so hopefully the software stops glitching (I even tried going back to my original one and can’t access it anymore) and she can reupload tomorrow.
Does that ever happen to you?
When there are multiple things lined up that don’t work. Like, I get one software being down, but both. And…I was easily able to add the intro and outro last week the first time I ever used the new software. So why didn’t it work today?
I didn’t expect it to be easy but I also didn’t think it would take more time and also not be completed.
Another lesson from the universe to plan better? This weekend was super packed though so I wouldn’t have been able to edit. Buuuuut, if I had the foresight last week after we recorded that today was a school holiday, I could have done it during the week.
I actually prefer editing shortly after recording because it’s easier to recall the convo and know what to look for. Then when it’s live and I listen to it, it’s somewhat fresh. Same with pulling parts for social shares.
Ok, it’s settled. I’ll start planning better and also editing quicker. At the very least, I wont leave editing for a Monday if there’s no school that day and eleventy billion things to do. Or even like 3 things. That is an amount that could derail me.
Tomorrow’s episode is all about clarity and consistency. It’s really good! If you tune in and there’s no intro, don’t hate…. it’ll be there soon.
