Day 126: Nerves

Our photographer for the 40 / 40 campaign shared on IG that she’s going to be interviewed on the news about the campaign!

I congratulated her and she said she would likely have a lot of anxiety right before it. Which is 100% natural. I responded telling her about box breathing. It’s what we do in our evening Success Secret Society meeting. You inhale for a count of 4, hold for 4, then exhale for 4. You do it 4 times total. It’s SO good at helping calm your brain down and reconnecting your body to your brain.

Something else that helps me whenever I'm super nervous is reminding myself that my cells are buzzing from excitement. That simple reframe can help so much.

Earlier today I attended a virtual networking event. It’s been so long since I’ve attended any type of business event, that I wasn’t a part of the planning. Even though I’ve attended likely around 50 networking events I still get freaked out.

What do you mean I have to introduce myself, remember who invited me, share about my business, AND say who a good referral is?! Ha. I did some breathing before it was my turn and the lady after me mentioned what I’d said and stated that she just had a conversation with someone about operations. Which means I definitely mentioned the operations part of what I do.

Nerves are so different depending on the event. With networking there is fear of judgement, looking or sounding like an idiot, being unclear or boring.

With public speaking the toughest part is being singled out and completely visible. “Will I say something meaningful? Will the message land how it’s supposed to? Will I accidentally drop an f bomb, spit, or pee?”.
