Day 132: We All Want What We Think is Right
Still under the weather. Wondering how I can phone it in. I opened this page, went blank so headed to the bathroom. In there I thought about visibility and how people are speaking out.
It’s different than the George Floyd 2020 coming out but still a similar feel. I’ve personally unfollowed a few influencers who haven’t addressed what’s happening. I don’t want to live in a vacuum but when folks posted about Kirk and aren’t about what’s happening in Minnesota, it is very telling.
Maybe they will come around.
Maybe they are fearful.
Maybe it’s not about sponsorship dollars but actual threats to their kids or their families. Maybe it’s not about livelihood.
That’s the thing right? We can’t assume that we know what’s going through people’s heads and why they do what they do. Or don’t do what we think they should do. We get trained on how they share and what they share about which makes them not sharing about similar things confusing.
But it can feel like a betrayal when you’ve admired someone for so long and have learned from them and watched their kids grow up for them to stay silent.
The people who speak up when there are school shootings. Or extreme weather experiences (hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, etc) that directly affect their neighbors.
Maybe it’s a coping mechanism. Maybe their parents are maga and they don’t have much time left with them. Maybe they have mental health problems and alienation from their family is too much of a burden to bare.
We can’t ever know exactly what is going through peoples minds.
What I do know, is that by expressing myself honestly and openly on this forum has helped me gain so much confidence. It’s helped my mental health so much and strengthened my resilience. It’s also reminded me that we are all human and we all want what we think is right.
