Day 16: Interview Update

I don’t think I ever shared with you that I sucked it up and bought staples (Day 5: Has Anyone Seen My Staples).

It was the morning of the interview for the “perfect fit” contract. I’d showered, got dressed, did all the morning routine stuff. Up at 6:45 that morning by 11 am I was willing the clock to get closer to the 1:30 pm start.

Reminded I was unfortunately unable to bend time I decided to go to Staples to get some staples.

That way I could securely fasten the job description, my research notes, and nonprofits 990 IRS forms,

Driving to Staples (less than a mile away) I thought, yea: I am NOT the type of person that goes into an interview disheveled. I am a professional and very put together human. How will they not want to assign the contract to me.

I find the staple aisle and would like to correct myself when I said packages contained 10,000. It’s actually 5,000. So I likely have 4,500 staples somewhere in my home.

The interview went REALLY well. The board members of the agricultural nonprofit were both so down to earth and it felt more like a convo than an interview. With my recent role (Jan 2022 to June 2023) as a FTE for a nonprofit hired to spearhead annual walkathons and a casino night I impressed upon them that I know how to deal with many varying stakeholders.

They were grateful when I shared knowledge from my involvement with the local chamber how local economic development offices are focusing on agro businesses because of the growing number of data centers in Northern Virginia. There is potential there for sponsorship or vendor tables.

I asked what the follow up would be and they said they would be interviewing until mid week, this week. When they emailed the Friday before my interview I saw all the time slots available.

After the interview I had such a positive feeling. I really wanted to work with these farmer women! I would be such an asset to their conference.

I sent a follow up email thanking them and determined I’d follow up today if I hadn’t heard back yet. That email was sent at 12:30.

The whole process felt serindipitous. And even if I don’t get the contract, I’ll still help them out with the correct contacts they need in the area. Because they are good people volunteering their time to forward a movement that I believe is important.

It feels good to want something, know you’re aligned, and also be ok if you aren’t chosen for the role. While having a 24 hr/wk role for 18 wks would help me feel less squeamish about our current finances, I was reminded that it’s all going to work out when we received a membership application for the Success Secret Society minutes after sending that follow up email.

And as I said in the group text to my birth family: Que Sera Sera.
