Day 36*: Not All, Not None
My business, NOVA Business Agency, provides a variety of audits for solopreneurs, small businesses, and non-profits. From overall marketing and branding to hyper-focused audits like specific campaigns and CRM effectiveness.
While we don’t get granular with the data, we are able to see what is working and what can be improved upon.
Having so much fun doing this research for other businesses is what I think has got me foaming at the mouth about tracking things in my personal life.
Well… that, AND committing to writing here for 365+ days in a row.
In yesterday’s post I mentioned that when you are working on improving multiple things at once, it makes it so much easier to not quit. And also to cheat guilt free.
Have you cut something out completely and then cheated and it basically ripped the band-aid off? Since you failed, what was the point of getting back on the wagon?
I think that’s pretty common.
I also think I may have hacked the personal growth paradigm with this eliminating multiple things at once.
My current personal goal list is:
Blog everyday for at least 365 days (with today as day 36, I’m a tenth of the way there!)
No gluten, sugar, or alcohol
Average less than 5 hrs screen time and at least 5k steps a day
All of these actions are benefiting my life. But before I got serious about tracking, the results were very inconsistent.
Not necessarily with the blogging because each time I write to you I start with the day in the title.
With gluten, sugar, and alcohol it’s an elimination so I try not to think about it (reference Day 6 for info on how to quit addictions successfully).
Monitoring both my steps on my iwatch and screen time on my phone is easy.
The inconsistency shows up on certain days when our president, or his minions, decide to fuck shit up which results in way more time online. When it’s raining, my furry friends get less walk time which results in less steps. If it’s a social occasion: gluten, sugar, and/or alcohol may be required.
But the chances that ALL of these things are going to be betrayed during one day…. impossible!
That was one of the things I noticed that sucked the most when I went non-gluten, sugar, alcohol. I literally got depressed like there was nothing to look forward to. So I decided to have a cheat day. And that has changed everything. There’s something to look forward to.
Sticking with these good habits has started to show results and straying every once and a while hasn’t been catastrophic.
Thoughts on giving it a try?
