Day 46: New Neuropathways
Hopefully you applied what you read yesterday about originating your negative thoughts.
After I read it back a couple hours later I realized I left off a part. When you swap out the self-defeating language with new accepting phrases, you start to create a new neuropathway. Although the original pathway has a very ingrained groove to it, and your immediate thoughts will likely default, if you use your pinball flappers to swap negative thoughts out, you will start to strengthen the groove in the new accepting pathway.
Things that repeat, compound. Thoughts, beliefs, actions, efforts.
Use that knowledge to your benefit and start compounding on positive thoughts.
This is why affirmations can be so powerful. Especially if you are able to repeat them without an undertone of disbelief.
If you want to lose weight or grow your bank account but the affirmations, “I am thin” or “I am rich” are begrudgingly mumbled, you’re better off not saying anything at all.
I’ve found that affirmations that could be believable make them stick, and work.
So, instead of “I am thin” you can start repeating to yourself, “I make healthy decisions about what I consume.”. Instead of “I am rich” you can repeat “I am making intelligent investments with my money.” or “The money is on it’s way.”.
One that I’ve been saying for over a decade is, “I am happy, healthy, wealthy and loved.”. Coming up with that affirmation wasn’t difficult and I truly believe I am all of those things. Whenever I’m feeling down in the dumps, or on the way there, I start repeating my mantra to myself. It immediately makes me feel better and is also a reminder that if my health feels poor, at least I know I’m loved. Maybe I’m not happy right now, but I’m wealthy in all the ways that matter.
Try to come up with something you can say to yourself that is true and believable. Then repeat it. When you need to and when you don’ t need to. Then you will be well on your way to a new positive neuropathway.
