Day 96: Italy and Current Administration
I should have written earlier. But instead I put on season 5 of Emily in Paris. I think I’m 6 episodes deep. The first 4 episodes were based in Italy. Which I loved. They then moved back to Rome but there will be a fashion show in Venice.
I love Venice.
The audacity of just building a floating city!
When my son, sister and I went to San Marco Square last year we did the top secret tour of Doge’s palace. We were in the room with all of the seals of the past Doge’s and their commoner Venetian counterpart. The floor was interesting. It kind of looked like epoxy. Actually, now that I think about it, I think the tour guide said it was epoxy.
Anyways, we are about 30 - 45 minutes into the tour and Oscar says, “You may feel like you are swaying. That’s because we are. It’s very slight but it’s not your imagination.” My sister and I both looked at each other and I said, “I thought it was vertigo coming back.”.
I got vertigo in 2019 after the second Connector Conference I hosted. It was the freaking worst. It felt like my skull was a fish bowl and my brain was a fish in water just swirling around. Like my brain was bumping up against my skull. it was very trippy. Kind of like being drunk but no sensations in the body at all, just the brain.
We were in Italy when 45 got elected again. I’m sure I have the screenshot of Elon Musk being named as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency. Seemed odd. I was thinking, “What are the chances I’d be learning about past Doge’s and this is happening right now.”.
Then he did a hostile takeover of a few govt agencies and got access to every american’s personal information. He also had access to all of the contract information he wanted.
That was back in January.
So much has happened since then. So many laws broken. Complete disregard for taking appropriate actions. Pardons. So many pardons.
It’s easier to tune out and watch shows like Emily in Paris. But I don’t think I’ll forget the conversation I had with the Vatican tour guide about how 45 won. She had shown us a collaborative painting of all the great philosophers. I told her 45 was like Cicero in knowing how to market himself. While I wouldn’t say 45 is eloquent, he knows how to capture an audiences attention. And hold it.
