Day 99: My Christmas Wish for You
I want you to run towards what you want.
Not run away from what you don’t want.
When you are making goals in your business, or personal life, what is it based on?
Do you want to increase your revenue month over month?
If so, why?
Consider this, if the increased revenue is to prove you know what you are doing (underlying self doubt) or make you feel like all the struggle and self sacrifices are not in vain (fear and hustling): that’s running away from something.
If the want of increased revenue is because you have clear goals of what you are going to do with the money: invest in systems, software, subs, etc. or increase your owners distribution to provide more ease in your personal life, that’s running towards something.
Growing and evolving in both our personal and professional lives is paramount to leading a fulfilled life. But growth without clear direction can end up being like a cancerous tumor. It’s for sure growing but it’s a growth that ultimately needs to be cut out or treated once it’s too big.
When you have growth that is in total alignment it evolves the whole you, not just one part of your life.

I met someone recently who is an expert in her field. She’s been doing it full time since 2007 and has been on her own for over a decade. All of her new clients come from word-of-mouth. THAT my friend is the Solopreneur mecca. Marketing and staying visible just because, not out of necessity.
She was telling me about a new venture she wants to start. It’s completely different from the line of work she’s in now but something she sees is missing since becoming a mom in the past few years.
Her new endeavor is directly related to what she got a college degree in, which isn’t the case for the field she’s been in for the past 15+ years.
The logical side of my brain thought, “Don’t do it! That is a very difficult market to sell to. It’s oversaturated and the ideal client you are talking about typically doesn’t make investments like that.”. I would have been speaking from my past experience.
I said nothing of the sorts though because she was sharing her vision with me, not paying me for a consult. And as a dreamer and visionary, I hold others dreams and visions with reverence.
Had we been in a consult I would have got her to dig deep.
I tend to err on the side of being overcautious when it comes to advising business owners to jump from a stable ship to a wobbly raft that could be built into a yacht. Knowing her personal situation too increased my concern. But I’m actively trying not to write peoples stories for them.
Since she came to mind just now after writing: “I want you to run towards your vision, not away from something else” I will elaborate on how our consult would look. Maybe it will help you if you’re ever on the fence about going all in on something new.
Why this and why now?
Are you bored with your current role? Has it become too monotonous? If revenue is a concern with your current work, how can we find new streams of income?
Do you think this new endeavor provides more flexibility?
Even with the experience of building a business, there is a runway for the foundation building. How are you preparing for that?
Are you able to dabble with the new venture while maintaining your current role?
What kind of market research can you do?
This business model is similar to the one you are currently in with the time commitment so why would you do this?
How many clients do you need to recoup and exceed what you’re currently making?
Based on what we uncovered in the consult hopefully she would hire me for my 3 month 1:1 support HERE. Because regardless if she determined this new venture was the way to go, or to maximize her current field for more income, having my support would make the decision making process much quicker and smoother.

So, how about you? What came up? Is there something you are striving for and you aren’t even sure why?
If so, no worries. I do it too.
But I know this method of making sure I’m running towards something aligned and expansive, as opposed to running away from something that makes me feel small or insecure, is the way to go.
Let’s make a pact to ensure our visions and dreams make sense on paper before rushing into something new.
