Perfectly Poised

Each December I determine my word for the year. It’s usually a download I get from the universe but in 2023 my creativity was fried and it took some prompting.

While bowling with my 3 guys I would say a word then throw the ball.

The word courage came to me and so it was decided when I then threw a strike.

Last year I was very courageous.

In January the adventurous kid and I went to New York City by bus and stayed overnight.

While on the bus ride back to Virginia I listened to an episode of Mel Robbins podcast with a behavioral health expert from Harvard sharing the benefits of the keto diet for treating anxiety and depression. In February I started to follow a vegetarian keto diet and lost 23 pounds in 6 months.

At the end of March I applied for a job at a company I’ve admired for a couple years. I was emailed that I wasn’t selected to move forward. At least I heard back!

Since my longtime business partner starting dropping hints in January that my position at the company he brought me to was going to be dissolved I started a new business on April 1.

Then in November I took the trip to Italy that I dreamed of for decades.

Ended 2023 on a high note, literally. On the night of December 22 I had my first and only attempt ever on an e-bike in DC and broke my collarbone.

There is a fine line between courage and stupidity… I have the x-ray to prove it.

ETA on September 17 when the blog was revived: my word for 2025 is POISE.
